À noter que la première version de Profondeurs glacées a été écrite à 4 mains avec Charles Dickens en 1856, pour devenir une pièce de théâtre qui a connu son petit succès...
Plusieurs années plus tard, en 1866, alors que Wilkie Collins a pris des distances avec Dickens, il remanie l'histoire et en fait une nouvelle.
